laura gray schulberg

writer/creative

My desire to make movies began like most others — in middle school, with a camera, my best friend, and a backyard. It’s not a total coincidence. I come from a long line of Hollywood history, with more than a few Academy Award winners in the mix.

Four generations later, we Schulbergs still can’t quite shake this business. My father — a screenwriter turned architect — urged me to “do something practical” in the industry.

So I taught myself how to edit and landed me my first job out of film school at Netflix. Three promotions and seven years later, I left my role as a creative producer to do the very impractical thing: follow my own creative instincts and tell my own stories.

I’m drawn to stories that mix heart, humor, and a sprinkle of magic ✨. I’m a people-watcher (some might say eavesdropper), and I put all those honest, overheard moments on the page.

The movies I love most are the ones you curl up with on a rainy summer afternoon, or throw on with your best friends on a hungover New Year’s Day. Ones with characters that remind you of your own family, or make you cry, or make you believe in love again. And those are the kind of movies I plan to make.

My feature Christmas script - X-MISS - is available to read upon request. Thank you!
